Your first visit with Dr. Best is actually an important part of the treatment you will receive during surgery. It's kind of like football, because our surgical team will need to have a game plan in order to create the best possible outcome.

At your first visit, we'll conduct a thorough clinical evaluation of your mouth, combined with reading your X-rays, and a review of your medical history. While some surgeries may require extensive planning and coordination with your dentist or orthodontist, other surgeries are rather straightforward. In some cases, surgery can even be performed the same day.

To help us help you, and to make your first appointment as beneficial as possible, please come prepared with the following:

  • Your referral from your referring doctor, as well as any applicable X-rays.

  • A list of all medications you currently take as well as any drug allergies.

  • Your current insurance card.

  • Please call our office before your first appointment if any of the following conditions are true: you are taking the prescription medications Coumadin or Warfarin; you have had prosthetic joint replacement; you have an artificial heart valve; you have recently had heart stents placed.

  • Please note: All patients under 18 years of age are required to have a parent or legal guardian present for the consultation, even if no treatment is to be performed.

  • Once we have evaluated your oral health needs, we will discuss with you the suggested treatment plan, as well as viable options for treatment and the related risks and benefits. We encourage you to ask a lot of questions and discuss your treatment with us, so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment plan.

  • Once your plan has been finalized, our office staff will work with you to get an estimate of what your insurance will cover and what you will be personally responsible for. Please remember, in order to provide quality care at the most reasonable cost possible, payment is due at the time services are rendered. We also work with Care Credit to provide another option to help finance your needed treatment.

We will do everything we can to schedule your appointment as quickly as possible. If you are in pain or have an emergency situation, every effort will be made to see you that day. We understand that your time is valuable, and we want to eliminate waiting in our office. However, given the nature of surgical procedures and individual circumstances, some surgeries may go over their scheduled time. When this happens, we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding. Please know that you will also receive the same specialized care and attention to detail in a non-rushed environment.

To give you as many options as possible, we are in-network providers with a number of dental insurance companies. In addition to your insurance coverage, you are responsible for all fees not paid by your insurance companies. While we make every effort to provide the most accurate insurance estimate possible prior to treatment, the insurance company may pay more or less than the estimated costs. If a balance remains after the insurance has paid, you will receive a statement with the balance due that you are responsible for. But if the insurance company pays more than estimated, you will be happily mailed a refund for the difference.

Every insurance plan varies, sometimes even plans within the same network. For the most up-to-date insurance information, please call us with your insurance company and policy number.

We accept the following insurances: Ameritas, Aetna, Cigna, DeCare, Delta Dental, and MetLife. However, this list is subject to change, so please call us if you have questions about your particular coverage.
